Agile Project Management – Balancing the two triangles

Every PMP knows about the triple constraints of project management. Those being Cost, Scope and Schedule. Yet, in agile environments where does a PM really “fit”? It’s not a role defined or specified by the Scrum Framework, and the work project managers must do has to be done by someone.

At the Ft. Lauderdale PMI user’s group, I spoke about the 2nd triangle, the agile triangle Project Managers must learn to navigate to be effective in an agile, and particularly, Scrum environment. That 2nd triangle encompasses the following:

  • Attention – The resource of any given person’s brain power
  • Swarm – The application of attention at a team level
  • Analysis – The focus of a team’s attention to leverage agility
